Archive for 'Riley'

It’s so lame to start all of our family posts like this but SERIOUSLY, where does the time go? I think about being 30 and I feel like my life has flown by so far. I can’t imagine how my parents feel when they look at me and remember my birth or me being small and here I am… 30! And although Charlotte has only been on this planet for 3 years it’s gone by so fast!! I remember her being born and now she carries on conversations with us and has her own little opinions! Anyway, all I’m trying to say to myself and to you is to soak it all up. This time we have goes by so quickly and everything is constantly changing. I’m trying desperately to be in the moment with my kids. To snuggle Riley as much as I can before those horrible days come when my kids are embarrassed to be be seen with me. To listen intently to Charlotte and jot down the cute things she says so that I never can forget them. Ahhhh, being a parent is such a mix of blessing and struggle but I wouldn’t trade it for a thing and Matt and I are so blessed to have people walking this journey with us.

Halloween is NOT my favorite holiday but it is pretty darn cute to see my kids faces light up seeing ALL the pumpkins at the Pumpkin Patch!! They had the best time wandering around and touching everything. Charlotte did not care for the scarecrows and she had her first traumatic porta-potty experience which was pretty hilarious. (long story, short: she went in there and froze, said that it was too icky and had to hold it because we couldn’t flush all the icky stuff away. I was laughing hysterically and then we headed straight to the golden arches to find a white, water filled toilet).
The kids loved dressing up and especially loved trick-or-treating with their little friends. They are quite the bunch! We had a great time and the kids loved every minute!! How was your Halloween? Next time we post something personal it could very well be the birth of our third so please keep us in your prayers :)
xo,
Molly + Matt

Riley Jack, you’re almost a year old and you melt our hearts. I listened to all the crying babies at church on Easter and all I could think about was what an angel baby you have been. You rarely cry and you smile OFTEN. Your laugh sounds like it is suffocating you and you eat everything! Your ginormous head is still only covered in peach fuzz but we like it because it gives you such a baby quality, it keeps you young. Your sister tackles you and smothers you and while it terrifies me and daddy it makes you laugh and squeal and we thank God for that because I’m sure that attribute will serve you well in life. Riley, you are number two. You have a baby book that is nearly empty compared to your sister’s and there are far less blog posts about you and you alone but please know that we love you. We adore you, and rather than pick up a pen or a camera at times I would just prefer to pick you up and give you a squeeze! Oh, I almost forgot you headbutt the people that you love and you just started to give these uh-mazing open mouth kisses. We love you, buddy, and it’s such a blessing to be your parents.

After the due date our doctor gave us came and went and a false labor the week before it was finally time for our nameless baby boy to enter the world. Molly started contractions Friday morning and we showed up to the hospital Friday night hung around for a couple hours and decided we’d either walk around the hospital all night (boo!) or go home for a bit and come back in the morning perhaps a little refreshed. We went home to Molly’s parents house and I slept for a couple hours and Molly quietly continued to labor. At 4:30 am we decided to go back. Molly labored for a few more hours…Molly was fully dilated, but the little one didn’t seem to want to come out, he was still at a -2 position. As they always do in hospitals the gave us some options…start a pit drip, break the water, or walk around possibly all day. Because it seemed the only thing keeping us from our baby was the bag of waters we decided to let the doctor break it. Positioned on her side and stacked with pillows Molly labored some more, but not long. It seemed breaking the water was exactly the invitation our baby was waiting for. Molly described the movement of our baby as a freight train moving through her body. At this point he came down so quickly that he almost beat the doctor into the room. Our wonderful nurse Michelle very calmly called the doctor and said “when we turn Mollly we’re going to have a baby” The nurses quickly and calmly prepared the delivery room. The doctor arrived just in the knick of time. This is it. Molly pushed through three contractions and boom! out came our little baby boy. A much quicker delivery than Charlotte but much more painful I’m told. Like a champ my amazing wife gave me a beautiful son.
Molly, I appreciate you and all that you do for our family. Thank you for enduring the pain of bringing another beautiful child of mine into this world. You are everything I could ask for in a wife and truly are a rockstar and I love you so much.
As we sat in the quiet and calm delivery room just the three of us we once again went over our list of boy names and to my surprise there was a new name on the list, Riley.
